SOHO, despite being overshadowed by the Hubble Space Telescope, is a vital space observatory. While Hubble has undergone multiple servicing missions, SOHO managed to survive a month-long communication loss with Earth and the failure of all its gyroscopes, with engineers devising innovative methods to sustain its operations. Surprisingly, SOHO also excelled as a comet hunter, discovering over 5000 comets, a feat unforeseen by its original designers and contributing significantly to comet research.
