Russia to Establish Lunar Power Station by 2036

In December 2025, Roscosmos entered a state contract with Lavochkin Research and Production Association to develop a Russian lunar power station by 2036.

The purpose of the station is to ensure a sustainable energy supply for the Russian Lunar program's consumers, such as rovers and observatories, and for the infrastructure of the International Scientific Lunar Station, which includes facilities for foreign partners. Planned activities involve spacecraft development, ground-based experiments, flight tests, and setting up infrastructure on the Moon. This initiative signifies a crucial advancement towards establishing a continuously operational scientific lunar station and shifting from isolated missions to a long-term research program on the Moon.

Key participants in the project include Roscosmos, Rosatom, and the Kurchatov Institute.
