The country with the largest number of emigrants is India, with 18.5 million citizens residing abroad, making up 1.3% of the population. Following closely are China (11.7 million people, 0.8% of the population), Mexico (11.6 million, 8.9%), Ukraine (9.8 million, a significant 25.8% of the country's population), and Russia with 9.1 million citizens living in other countries, constituting 6.3% of the total population.
Despite having the highest number of emigrants, these countries do not rank at the top in relative terms. Over half of the native populations of Guyana, Samoa, and Bosnia and Herzegovina reside in other countries, with over 40% of emigrants coming from Jamaica, Albania, Comoros, and Suriname.
