Cuba is currently experiencing an energy crisis, resulting in a notable decrease in night lighting across numerous major cities since January 2026. Areas with reduced nighttime illumination, shown in turquoise on the map, indicate a deviation from the typical levels of lighting.

Surprisingly, Havana and some of its suburbs, along with certain areas of Santa Clara, are the only locations where the usual brightness of nighttime lighting has been preserved amidst the energy crisis.
